Given name: Feng Mei (Feng is the last name and Mei is the first.) Mei's chinese symbol means Rose. Her caregivers call her "Meimei".
Birthdate: April 20, 2006
Welfare Institute: Xinyang City, Henan
Mei was found abandoned on May 14, 2006 and sent to the orphanage. She has bilateral cleft lip and palate. Her lip was repaired in September of 2006 when she was 5 months old. Her referral says Meimei is a cute and lovely child with beautiful eyes. She makes lots of systemic actions, likes music and children's songs. She flourishes when she is happy. She speaks "yaya" to the mirror and has a ready smile. Meimei is described as active, restless, talkative, quick in reaction, gets along well with others, energetic, and fairly extroverted. At the time of her referral (15 months) she was still taking a bottle 5 times daily of milk mixed with rice cereal. She also eats rice, noodles, mashed meat, soup, steamed egg, biscuits and fruits. Her favorite foods are fruit and cake (just like her brothers!) Meimei was 6.6 lbs at 3 weeks and 19.3 inches long. At 15 months she was 17.6 lbs and 29.5 inches. Although this is considered "small" in the United States, these measurements are normal for a child in a Chinese orphanage. Her weight is very good for a child affected with cleft palate. Mei will have surgery to correct her palate when she gets home as well as speech therapy. The orphanage says they are very pleased in Feng Mei's daily growth and wish her with a good future.
